There is a tale-telling tickle
at the back of my throat
Saying a germ has been busy
being a lousy old bloke.
Soon I’ll be laid up
wishing I had a remote
I’d press the fast-forward
’til my voice doesn’t croak.
-An oldie-goldie poem by myyoungerself
I had plans to explain some fascinating project of mine today, but alas, my humanity has caught up with me, as it does so frequently *cough, daily*… and now I am ill.
Hot/sweaty, cold/chilly kind of sick. My feet long to be up instead of down and I am often covered in a second layer of wool – instead of my usual single layer. 😉 The blowing of the nose and the drinking of the beverages keeps me busy.
What you really need to have on hand for when you are sick in winter is:
- a box of non-caffienated tea, such as Chamomile Lavendar (my favorite!)
- a bag of lemons
- a insulated 12 oz mug (not too big, not too small)
- some unflavored gelatin or collagen (you know I’m weird and crunchy!)
- a warm blanket (wool is my #1)
And so, in the dark of winter, I present to you – my current favorite hot beverage:
The Cup of C
C, like Vitamin C! It has me feeling relatively perky and well hydrated as I suck it out of my thermos all day long.
1-2 tea bags (extra points if they’re herbal)
Juice of a lemon
1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1-2 pinches salt
1 tsp vanilla
a little sweetener, such as honey, maple syrup or stevia
1.5 tsp gelatin
First, steep 1-2 tea bags in 8 oz. of boiling hot water.
Now, to the blender add: steeped tea, minus tea bag. Fresh lemon juice, spices, vanilla, and sweetener.
You want to fill it up to the 1.5 cup mark with some more boiling hot water, so that the steeped tea won’t leave your drink lukewarm.
As the blender whirls around, shovel in your gelatin. Let the blender whiz your sweetener and gelatin into the liquid very well, pour into your insulated mug and snap the lid on.
Put your feet up with a good book and convalesce in comfort with your cup!
